What can I expect with retainers?
The retainer’s purpose is to keep teeth in place as they were the day the braces were removed. If you do not wear the retainers, your teeth will move, and correction of tooth movement may require additional treatment time and expense.

Retainers are worn full-time for the first 6 months unless otherwise instructed by your orthodontist. Full time means 24/7. After 6 months, they should be worn at night forever.

One set of retainers are included with your treatment fee. After that, there is a charge for replacements.

Bring your retainers to all appointments.
How should I care for my retainers?
Properly cleaning your retainers is essential for maintaining good oral hygiene and keeping your smile aligned after treatment.
When cleaning your retainers, we recommend:
- Using a separate toothbrush with antibacterial soap. Avoid toothpaste, as it can scratch and dull retainers.
- Never exposing retainers to heat (boiling water, dishwasher, hot car), as it can warp the shape.
- Avoiding mouthwash soaks. Use a retainer cleaner like Retainer Brite instead.
- Storing them in a case when not in use and keeping them away from kids and pets.
- Never wrapping retainers in napkins when eating at a restaurant, school, or work, as they can be mistaken for trash and thrown away.
- Contact us right away if your retainers are lost, damaged, or no longer fit properly.
